Frequently Asked Questions

What is Submerge all about?

Submerge is a place where you can be yourself, where you can ask questions, and where you won’t be pressured to conform to any stereotype. We don’t have everything figured out, but we are on a journey of restoration through Jesus learning how to submerge deeper into our faith, into love for each other, and into our neighborhood (we’re big on serving our local community and always have opportunities you can join in).

Who's the Pastor of Submerge?

Carter Moss has been a pastor for nearly 20yrs, with 10 of those being right here in Ocean Beach. He planted Submerge in OB in December 2022, and has many strong partnerships with local schools, businesses, and community organizations around the town. He’s also on the board for OB Mainstreet Association and for G.R.A.C.E. (and you can hyperlink that to their site). He’s passionate about Jesus, about bringing a message of hope & grace, and about living out our faith in tangible ways & showing people God’s love through serving in the community & around the world!

What can I expect if I decide to attend?

We mix things up a little each week, so you might hear our band lead us in live music, or experience one of our “open sharing times” where we get to hear how God is at work in each other’s lives, Communion, or a prayer/reflection moment. You’ll always hear a non-judgemental, relevant, practical message based on stories/teachings from the Bible & how it applies to our lives (with some humor mixed in too), and can always connect with some great welcoming over our coffee (supporting local OB Beans) & snacks.

When and where do the Sunday gatherings take place?

We meet every Sunday morning at 10am in the big white community building at 1711 Sunset Cliffs, San Diego, CA 92107.

Where do I park?

We have a small parking lot that anyone is welcome to park in, otherwise there is plenty of street parking (depending on time of year) on surrounding streets.

What should I wear?

Anything you’re comfortable in! We are casual. You’ll see people in shorts/t-shirts/flip-flops, or dressed a little nicer, or in their favorite team shirt, or in hats, or whatever they’re comfortable in.

Is there something for my kids?

Yes! We have a fun family atmosphere with lots of kids. As a new startup church, we are continuing to work on building a full Kids Ministry and a forthcoming Student Ministry. For now there’s a kids area in the back of our main room where younger kids can play & work on fun activities, while still hearing the service.

  • The family space is not being supervised by Submerge volunteers at this time (but we’re working on it–let us know if you want to be on the team!).
  • If your child can play independently, feel free to sit in any chairs nearby so you can be available if needed.
  • If your child needs supervision, please stay in the family space with them and enjoy the service together.
  • Children of any age are also welcome to sit with their families in the main service space.

Is there food?

We have great snacks from local spots each week and coffee amazing coffee from our friends at OB Beans! Come a couple of minutes early to grab some and feel free to enjoy them during the Sunday gathering.

How long does it last?

We usually finish around 11:15AM.

What does a typical Sunday morning at Submerge look like?

A typical Sunday gathering always includes a message about how the way of Jesus applies to our lives (usually from our Founding Pastor, Carter Moss), information about opportunities to engage with the community and volunteering, and other moments (we like to mix it up try fresh things) such as live music, “open sharing time” where we get to hear how God is at work in each other’s lives, different prayer/reflection moments, or Communion (we celebrate it monthly with real bread & wine, and anyone is welcome to partake).
