Pocket Jesus: Spreading Joy and Hope

Pocket Jesus started as a simple reminder on Easter Sunday 2024 — a small token for everyone to take home to remember the hope and grace Jesus brings into our daily lives. With his friendly smile and welcoming hands, Pocket Jesus was meant to bring joy and comfort during stressful times. People eagerly brought him into their lives, placing him in cars, on work desks, bedside tables, kitchen tables, and of course, in their pockets.

Soon, Pocket Jesus began appearing in photos taken at various places — the grocery store, post office, beach, lunch spots, Padres games, and more. This sparked the creation of a Facebook page for people to share his many adventures. Photos poured in from across the country as people took Pocket Jesus on trips and vacations.

Unexpectedly, friends, family, co-workers, and even strangers started asking how they could get a Pocket Jesus. We encouraged people to take extras from church to share, and the demand grew. Since Easter, we’ve distributed hundreds across San Diego and beyond, with Pocket Jesus now reaching friends and family around the world.

One of the most beautiful outcomes of the Pocket Jesus movement is seeing people who aren’t currently interested in church or religion wanting one. There’s something so welcoming and non-threatening about Pocket Jesus that appeals to everyone, reflecting the true nature of Jesus. What began as a personal reminder has become a joyful, widespread movement, sparking conversations and thoughts about Jesus everywhere.

How to Get a Pocket Jesus

To get your own Pocket Jesus, stop by a Submerge weekly gathering on Sunday (10am @ 1711 Sunset Cliffs) and take as many as you want! If you don’t live nearby, use our contact form to submit your name and address, and we’ll mail one to you.
